Did it when we played Domzale. The Vintgar Gorge is about an hour's walk away (4 or 5km) or you can get a taxi.

Nice little hike, very scenic.

I went about 15 years ago. Bled is a nice place and not too touristy, at least it wasn’t then. There are a few casinos there, some decent bars and good value restaurants. Slovenia also has a lot of spas if you like 5hat kind of thing.

It's beautiful Bill, also stayed at the Toplice.

Obviously many of us went to Ljubljana a couple of years ago when we played Domzale and that was a great place too.

Re: Anybody been to Lake Bled? Tips please
The train to Venice is a possibility but it takes at least 3 hours and involves changing trains in Nova Gorica / Gorizia which is a town half in Italy and half in Slovenia. Only problem is that the train stations in town are 2 miles apart. Not possible as a day trip so would need to be a 2 or 3 day trip.

I have a house about a mile from the lake. Can suggest places to eat and visit eg Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bohinj. Also best car hire people.

If I see you at Watford I will have a chat.

I went there in 84, maybe 85 when it was all Yugoslavia.

Lake Bled is beautiful, get the boat to the church.

Postojna caves are in that area, definitely worth seeing.

I remember one part of that cave system as being quite incredible. The limestone blocks, some of which were as big as cars, had collapsed leaving a huge space between the top of the pile of blocks and the roof of the cave. It was like a hollowed out hill. I have never seen anything like it since.

A Serbian geezer one pulled a knife out in a bar when we suggested that Croatians really weren't that bad.

He really didnt like Croatians.

Went a couple of years ago. Lovely setting and great base to explore rest of country. Ljubljana is a great little capital and only an hour away. Julian alps are very picturesque while piran is like a mini Venice without the crowds

Been to Ljubljana a couple of times which is really great place but last time added on a day trip via cheap car hire dropping off at the airport to lake Bled... cream cakes nice. Made the mistake of driving further on from the lake and ended off on a Austrian motorway but avoided road tax by turning round in a lorry park on the motorway and heading into Italy where I needed a piss and then headed back to Slovenian airport phew!

One of the most stunningly beautiful places I have ever seen - incredible in the sun, but also brooding and atmospheric when it was cloudy.
As said, try the local cream cakes - much lighter than they look.

Go mate, just go
I love my fishing and through exploring special overseas places fell upon Bled
Now I don't expect that you will be doing that, but it is absolutely stunning, I want to go within the next couple of years.
Not sure what way you plan to travel, but you are within striking distance of Venice there too, trains are apparently the nuts
In resort, check out where yu are staying, the casino is a good night, but there are plenty of good bars and eateries. Boat trip to the chuch on the island is a must
Enjoy mate

Not Lake Bled, but I have been to Ljubljana. Can I suggest, try read the blogs on Tripadvisor's website, that will give you a good insight to the area.

Lovely place. Make sure you try the local cream cakes. Get a boat and row to the little island. We stayed at the Toplice hotel which is about the best one on the lake but only because I knew the manager at the time. There’s a little beach on the west side iirc. Summer toboggans are brilliant. There were a few lively bars, can’t remember any names but it was surprisingly noisy at night.
